Headlight lens covers become yellow or faded mainly due to oxidation. Most modern headlights are made from polycarbonate plastic, which is durable but highly sensitive to UV rays from sunlight. Over time, UV exposure breaks down the outer layer of the plastic, causing it to turn yellow, cloudy, or dull. Other contributing factors include heat from bulbs, road debris, acidic chemicals, and moisture trapped inside the headlight, all of which accelerate the discoloration and surface degradation.
